I have a Rocky Mt gelding who just turned 4 yrs old. He did a 4 beat lateral gait barefoot when I bought him. After he was shod, he got rough in gait. The 2nd time he was shod, the shoer changed the angles to 54 degrees in back and 50 degrees in front. He put a heavier shoe on the fronts.Now the back feet step on the front feet thus pulling off a front shoe at one time. He is also walking with an uncomfortable, lumbering walk now. He use to walk very smooth like a paso. My back must have a smooth gaited horse. Help! What can I do? I must have the horse shod as I ride on rocky trails at times and ride a lot. My paso that I use to own, was always shod at 50 degrees front, 52 in back and he gaited wonderful. Do I try that with my Rocky? My shoer keeps experimenting and the gait is getting worse.
