Question: I grew up on quarter horses, but back then we would ride bare back, and there wasn't all the fuss.  I beleive it is more me than my horse, maybe I don't know how to ride a gaited horse, so he doesn't know what I want him to do. Please give me advice on how to better my riding abilities and not confuse my horse. thank you.

You might want to take some riding lessons to learn how to have independent 
seat & hands.  Becoming a better rider takes a lot of desire & work.  It 
sounds like you have the desire, so get to work.  Find a good instructor and 
practice what they tell you.
